Serbia: Customs Procedures Go Digital

Serbia is taking a significant step toward streamlining its customs procedures with the introduction of the "eCustoms" project. As mass media reports, this initiative aims to enhance efficiency, reduce processing times, and minimize costs for businesses while ensuring a more transparent and impartial customs process.

The Customs Administration, in collaboration with the relevant ministry and with financial support from the European Union, reportedly presented part of the project earlier this week. The goal is to align Serbia’s customs operations with the standards of developed countries by fully automating customs procedures.]

According to official statements, the business community has shown considerable interest in the project.

Employees of the Customs Administration were the first to attend the project's presentation, while the following day was dedicated to the business sector, which is expected to experience the most direct impact from the changes. Given that this transition represents a major shift in operations, companies are advised to prepare in advance.

To facilitate this transition, the Customs Administration has activated the Business Contact Group, which will reportedly serve as a key communication channel between the government and the private sector. This group will ensure the regular exchange of information throughout the implementation phases of "eCustoms" and organize extensive training sessions for business representatives.

As Serbia moves towards digitalizing its customs system, the new procedures are expected to bring significant advantages for companies engaged in international trade. However, businesses should remain informed and adapt to the upcoming changes to fully benefit from the new system.
