USA: $15K visa deposit test

The USA announces the launch of a pilot program on August 20, requiring some foreign travelers to deposit up to $15,000 to obtain an American visa. This information is reported on the US Federal Register website.

The program will be in effect until August 5, 2026, and is primarily aimed at citizens of countries with a high rate of overstaying. It covers tourist (B-2) and business (B-1) visas and applies to those coming from countries with frequent visa violations, inadequate traveler verification systems, or the possibility of obtaining citizenship through investment without the requirement to reside in the country. It is noted that the deposit will be refunded if the applicant leaves the country on time and does not violate visa conditions.

Price range for potential deposits would be determined by consular officers and could vary between $5,000, $10,000 or $15,000.
