Slovenia Introduces Residence Permit for Digital Nomads

Slovenia has amended its Foreigners Act to introduce a temporary residence permit for digital nomads — highly qualified professionals working remotely using modern communication technologies.

Eligibility criteria:

  1. Citizenship outside the EU/EEA.

  2. Remote work (not employed by or providing services to clients in Slovenia).

  3. A passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended stay.

  4. Health insurance that covers emergency medical care in Slovenia.

  5. Monthly income at least double the average net salary in Slovenia (currently approx. €2,868/month).

  6. No grounds for rejection (e.g., security risks, criminal record, etc.).

The permit is granted for up to 1 year with no renewal. A new application may only be submitted 6 months after the previous permit expires.
