Romania Plans Golden Visa Program for Non-EU Investors
Romania is preparing to launch a Golden Visa Program offering renewable residence permits to non-EU investors who make substantial financial commitments in the country. The proposed scheme, officially titled the Residency by Investment Program, would grant a 5-year renewable residence permit in exchange for investments of at least EUR 400,000.
Eligible investment options reportedly include:
-
The purchase of government bonds with a maturity of at least 5 years
-
Acquisition of real estate valued at EUR 400,000 or more
-
Investments in ASF-authorized funds
-
Purchase of shares in Romanian listed companies worth at least EUR 400,000
Applicants must verify the legal origin of their funds and pass background checks by Romanian intelligence and financial oversight bodies. If approved, investors would be allowed to include family members in their applications and apply for citizenship after five years of continuous residence.
The initiative is still at the draft stage, and details may evolve before official adoption. We continue to monitor legislative updates and will inform clients once the program is confirmed and application procedures are defined.
