Kazakhstan: IMEI verification required
Foreigners arriving in Kazakhstan with a phone or tablet purchased abroad may receive an SMS notification requiring them to verify the IMEI. The requirement applies to devices first brought into the country after March 24, 2025.
IMEI is a unique code assigned to each mobile device. Its verification is required to use SIM cards from local operators and to confirm that the device was legally imported. If the procedure is not completed, access to mobile communications in Kazakhstan may be restricted.
