Kazakhstan: Banking Rules Eased for Foreign Nationals
From 29 September 2026, foreign nationals without a residence permit are no longer automatically classified as high-risk banking clients in Kazakhstan. Banks can now assess the risk profile of each foreign customer individually.
The previous rule limiting the validity of bank cards issued to non-residents to 12 months has also been removed. Banks may determine card validity periods independently. However, the change does not automatically extend cards that have already been issued.
Mandatory monthly biometric verification has also been abolished, with banks now able to determine how frequently such checks are required. Identity verification and other banking compliance procedures remain in place.
