The European Union announced the new the long-awaited implementation date for the Entry/Exit System (EES). It is expected to start in October 2025

The EES is meant to replace manual border checks by implementing an automated IT system for registering non-EU nationals travelling for a short stay, each time they cross the external borders of any of the following European countries using the system: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.

System that will collect information such as name, type of travel document, biometric data (fingerprints and photographs), and the date and place of entry and exit. It identifies overstayers and provides reliable data on entries, exits, and refusals of entry and  promotes real-time information sharing, ensuring that border authorities across the EU have the right information at the right time.
