Croatia: Digital Nomad Visa Now Available

Croatia continues to expand its Digital Nomad Visa program, offering foreign nationals the opportunity to live and work remotely in the country without local employer sponsorship.

Initially launched on January 1, 2021, the visa allowed stays of up to one year. As of August 26, 2025, it now permits an initial stay of 18 months, with the possibility of one renewal for an additional 18 months — allowing digital nomads to stay in Croatia for up to 36 months in total.

To qualify, applicants must provide proof of health insurance, a police clearance certificate, and other standard documents required for temporary residence permits. The visa is designed for professionals working remotely for foreign employers or clients abroad, removing the need for local company sponsorship that was previously required under Croatian work permit regulations.

The program reflects Croatia’s broader economic recovery strategy following the pandemic, aiming to attract remote professionals and boost long-term tourism and local spending.

However, employers and remote professionals should remain aware of potential compliance and tax implications. In countries where remote work regulations are still developing, working from abroad without proper authorization could lead to legal or tax noncompliance risks, including fines or loss of hiring privileges for employers.
