Sustainable Moving with Intermark

At Intermark, we understand the importance of adopting eco-friendly transportation practices when it comes to moving goods. As a responsible and sustainable company, we are committed to minimizing our carbon footprint by offering environmentally conscious solutions for all your relocation needs.

Intermark is an active participant in The Coalition for Greener Mobility that includes the leading associations, WERC, EuRA, CERC, FIDI, IAM, CHPA. Our Household Goods and Moving Services team uses recyclable materials, wherever possible and places a strong emphasis on re-using packing materials.

Some sustainable packaging best practices include:

1. Our eco-friendly transportation of goods begins with careful planning and logistics management. We prioritize efficient route planning to optimize fuel consumption and reduce emissions during transportation. By using advanced tracking technologies, we ensure that our trucks follow the most environmentally friendly routes, avoiding congested areas and minimizing idle time.

2. Before any move, we highly recommend that clients cull through belongings and declutter. Consider donating or recycling items that are no longer needed. This reduces the what is being moved and prevents unnecessary waste.

3. To ensure packaging is as ecofriendly as possible, Intermark uses recycled materials at each point of the transportation journey:

  • Paper and cardboard

By using recycled materials, we can conserve natural resources, reduce the amount of waste in landfills, and prevent pollution by limiting the need to collect raw materials.

  • Corrugated cardboard

We are all familiar with bubble wrap packaging – a popular kids’ favorite. This packaging helps to protect fragile items during shipping. However, this is not eco-friendly material. Sustainable alternatives are being developed as substitutes.

One of these alternatives is a wrap made from up-cycled corrugated cardboard. Rather than disposing of or recycling post-consumer cardboard waste, the material is given an additional life. Intermark uses this for the transportation of fragile items. Small cuts are made to produce a concertina-type effect that protects against shocks just as bubble wrap does. The only downside is that you do not get the satisfaction of popping the bubbles afterward!
  • Paper adhesive tape

Paper adhesive tape with high-quality natural rubber adhesive, is quiet and unrolls evenly. The strong adhesive tape leaves no residue when removed. An all-round tape for every surface – it can even be used in refrigerated shipping. The yarn-reinforced paper adhesive tape is extremely tear-resistant and eco-friendly.

4. We prefer using digital documentation instead of printing documents, i.e., contracts and inventory lists. This reduces paper waste and saves resources.

5. In line with our commitment to sustainability, we have also implemented various waste reduction strategies. We utilize reusable packing materials and boxes made from recycled materials, reducing the demand for single-use packaging. Upon completion of the move, we collect and recycle these materials, ensuring they are given a new life instead of adding to landfill waste.

6. As an advocate for eco-friendly transportation, we actively seek out partnerships with suppliers who share our commitment to sustainable practices. We prioritize working with eco-conscious businesses, such as those providing renewable energy and carbon offsetting programs, to further mitigate our environmental impact.

At Intermark, our commitment to sustainable moving goes beyond transportation. We also encourage our clients to adopt eco-friendly behaviors throughout the entire relocation process. We provide resources and guidance on sustainable packing practices, energy-efficient moving tips, and even assistance in finding eco-friendly homes in new locations.

Together, let us pave the way towards a more sustainable and eco-conscious future, one move at a time.
